Textile forms at the Decordova » stuffed form

We were asked to create a stuffed textile form. I had ambitions of making a complex 3D form. My seriously limited skills meant that I instead focused on just making a sphere. Then, I wanted the sphere to appear hollowed out…something counterintuitive for a skin that is stuffed…how can it be intented/carved? I added freemotion embroidery at the carved opening. In the process of making these, I thought of one of my favorite poems – “Design” by Robert Frost. This resonated with me, and I thought about ways to take themes from the poem, and translate them into my stuffed form.
